Friday Five #111
On puzzles, concerts, television shows, barrel jeans + more!
Hi friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful week. I’m not too keen on this third winter we seem to be having here in New York (or maybe it’s our fourth winter? I don’t know, I’m losing track), but needless to say, I’m over it. I want sunshine. I want heat. I want to go outside without a jacket, a hat, and gloves.
I. Am. Over. It.
I’m not even going to attempt to talk about the utter mess of this current administration. But if you want to keep up with the news, I’d urge you to follow credible journalists: Emily Amick, Sharon McMahon, Heather Cox Richardson, Yashar Ali, and Jessica Yellin.
But, other than these winter temperatures and the threat of world destruction, it’s been a lovely week. My son has been on Spring break, and we’ve been having our own little staycation.
We also had our first round of rehearsals for the Moms’ Night Out: The Concert Series (Saturday, April 18th at The Green Room 42), and these mamas are AMAZING. Their talents and stories are not to be believed and are something everyone should behold in person. I do hope you join us! Tickets are available here (use code MOM10 for $10 off your purchase).
Now, let’s get into this week’s Friday Five:
SHRiNKING. Let’s talk about Shrinking. Shrinking is one of the best things on television right now. Shrinking is something that the world needs right now. Shrinking is a masterclass in storytelling, in what it means to capture humanity on a screen. The first season starts by following Jimmy, a therapist who loses his wife in a car accident, and becomes unglued as he tries to navigate life without her, all the while raising their teenage daughter, Alice. What unfolds is a testament to community. To friendship. To what it means to be a good neighbor. To what it means when people say it takes a village, (not only to raise kids), but to live in harmony and happiness alongside others. Season 3 just wrapped, and I think it might be one of my favorite seasons yet—college transitions, career changes, life moves—they dive into it all and deliver with gusto. I can’t see what’s in store for Season 4! (And, Bill Lawrence, I am available to be in that writers’ room. Just give me a call.)
The Easter Bunny brought my son these Mickey puzzles - and we have loved doing them over coffee and apple sauce in the mornings! It’s been a wonderful way to start our mornings. And, I’ve been able to drink my coffee while it’s still hot, too!
Last week, I wrote about how much I loved The Last Thing He Told Me, and told y’all that I loved it so much that when I finished it, I immediately bought the sequel, The First Time I Saw Him. Let me tell you — this story just keeps getting more enthralling. Laura Dave is a wizard with words, with suspense, with crafting characters that feel as if they’re sitting right next to you. 10/10 would recommend.
I picked up these jeans from Daze Denim at a local boutique, and I. Love. Them. Who knew barrel jeans could be so flattering?! Cause I did not. This brand of denim is quite lovely, too — and I’m something of a denim critic. Pick up a pair for yourself, here!
My friend Maria Giesbrecht has a beautiful, brilliant, lovely, wonderful, magical, feral poetry collection coming out on May 8th! She’s truly one of the modern-day masters of poetry, and if you’re looking to dip your toe into the world of poems that will stir your soul, I cannot recommend preordering her debut collection, A LITTLE FERAL, enough!
That’s it for this week! Have a lovely weekend.

Megan! Thank you so much for the shoutout <3
