Friday Five #129
On essays, podcasts, face scrubs + more!
Hi Friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful week thus far. And if it’s been less than wonderful, I hope your luck turns soon. We are soaking up August with every inch of our beings in our household — pool days. Ice cream. Movie nights. Sleepovers with cousins. Walks at twilight. Barbeques with old friends. Dinner parties with new ones. Library challenges. Beach days.
And now, a summer Friday.
It’s been a good week — and the good news is that there are still a few more weeks of summer!
But enough about August — let’s get into this week’s Friday Five.
(For those of you who are new around here, The Friday Five is a weekly roundup of five things that are worth your good attention: things I love, important news, art that will leave an imprint on your heart, items that make my life (and my family’s life) a little bit brighter.)
I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Heather Vickery | Joy Warrior for her podcast, “Was It Chance?”, which she also co-hosts alongside Alan Seales. The heartbeat of the podcast is about embracing opportunity and taking intentional risks in your creative life. The interview I had with them was an absolute blast and food for my creative soul. Their questions were fun and thoughtful, and their expertise in their respective fields is equally as delightful. Dig deep through their archives on Spotify or Apple Podcasts — I promise you won’t be disappointed.
I’ve been feeling like my pores have been a little too clogged lately, which often tends to happen to me in the summertime. This scrub by Caudalie is fantastic — it’s a 3 on the EWG rating scale, so I try not to use it daily, but it’s so effective that once or twice a week does the trick.
This article by Alicia McKenzie is one of my favorite things I’ve read on Substack recently, partly because she talks about her children and her career, and partly because it’s both rare and refreshing to see a businesswoman talk so candidly about how she makes money. It’s inspiring, too. She doesn’t gatekeep, and sometimes that feels like a rarity in the creative/entrepreneurial/women-in-business space. I’d highly recommend reading her work.
We have some exciting casting announcements that are coming up for DUETS: The Concert Series Volume 11!! And yes, this is a vague, nonspecific casting announcement, but trust me when I say you’re not going to want to miss it. So, be sure to get your tickets here, and then stay up to date with all creative and casting announcements by following us on @duetsconcertseries on Instagram.
One of my favorite pairs of jeans from Good American (the vintage wide-leg) is currently 29% off! Don’t miss out — and the best part is that you can wear them all year round.
Till next week!
xo, Megan
