Wound Care
A poetry prompt, a writing tool, & the community of poets on Instagram that make the internet a better place
I often get asked where I get ideas for my poems. And many times, it’s just life: a song. A show. Something my husband says. Something my son does. Some words of wisdom that my parents espoused when I was a kid now thunder in my head throughout various seasons of my adulthood. A sunset. A wedding. The theatre. The things that still feel like magic.
And then there are times when I get prompts from brilliant and lovely poets on the internet, and their words spark something else.
Camille S.G. (@camisarahpoetry on Instagram) has a weekly series called Monday Meme Prompts, where she takes about ten memes from the internet and posts them with a witty, thoughtful, and insightful poetry prompt. It’s delightful. It’s fun. And it’s a wonderful exercise to flex your creative writing muscles, and dip into the world of poetry, too!
Here’s the meme + prompt that Camille came up with:
Here’s the poem I wrote inspired by the prompt and the meme:
Another awesome thing about this series, is that the previous posts are free and waiting for you to dive into. Check them out @camisarahpoetry.
Happy Writing!
